Crypto influencer Jaypeg faces severe allegations of involvement in a scam surrounding the "Uptober" memecoin project. According to claims made by Uptober's developers and community members, Jaypeg agreed to promote their memecoin in exchange for 2% of its total supply, valued at approximately $2,200. However, after receiving the tokens, he allegedly sold them and denied ever receiving any funds.
The controversy began when Jaypeg reportedly negotiated a deal with the Uptober team via Telegram. This agreement stipulated that he would promote the newly launched memecoin in return for a significant portion of its supply. Upon receiving the tokens, Jaypeg deleted messages containing the wallet address where they were sent, claiming it was an erroneous address and that he had not received the tokens.
Shortly after the transfer, the Uptober team observed that the tokens were sold. This raised suspicions that Jaypeg had offloaded his allocation without fulfilling his promotional commitments. In response to these accusations, the Uptober team sought assistance from blockchain analyst ZackXBT to investigate the matter further.
ZackXBT's investigation revealed troubling evidence for Jaypeg. The wallet address that received the Uptober tokens was previously associated with his claims for airdrops from the Solana Saga smartphone. This connection emerged shortly after Jaypeg posted an unboxing video discussing the device. Despite the evidence linking him to the wallet, Jaypeg maintained his innocence, suggesting that he had accidentally shared the wrong address.
Jaypeg's denial involved allegations against the Uptober team of plotting to extort money from him. In an attempt at damage control, he claimed to have returned the amount that was in dispute to charity organisations. But, most people in the blockchain industry considered this response an act of deception since the investigation was still ongoing in his case.
