India's Defence Acquisition Council approved ten capital acquisition proposals worth ₹1.05 lakh crore on July 3, 2025, marking a significant step toward military modernization. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the council meeting that cleared these indigenous sourcing proposals.
The approved equipment includes advanced missile systems, electronic warfare capabilities, and naval vessels to strengthen India's operational preparedness across all three services.
The approved proposals encompass critical defence equipment including Armoured Recovery Vehicles, Electronic Warfare Systems, and an Integrated Common Inventory Management System for Tri-Services coordination. Surface-to-air missiles form a crucial component of these procurements, designed to enhance India's air defence capabilities.
The Defence Ministry emphasized that these acquisitions will provide higher mobility to ground forces, effective air defence coverage, and improved supply chain management. All equipment will be sourced through indigenous manufacturing, supporting the government's self-reliance initiative in defence production.
The Defence Ministry approved specialized naval equipment procurement, including Moored Mines, Mine countermeasures vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mount systems, and Submersible Autonomous Vessels. These acquisitions aim to mitigate potential risks to Indian Naval and Merchant Vessels operating in strategic waterways.
The approved systems fall under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category, promoting domestic defence manufacturing capabilities. The naval procurements will significantly enhance India's maritime security posture and strengthen coastal defence mechanisms against emerging threats.
This approval follows recent major defence deals, including the ₹30,000 crore Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile system review in June 2025. Earlier in March 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Security approved India's largest-ever helicopter deal worth ₹62,700 crore for 156 Light Combat Helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
The 'Prachand' helicopters represent India's first indigenously designed combat helicopters, demonstrating the country's growing domestic defence manufacturing capabilities.
The ₹1.05 lakh crore defence procurement approval represents India's commitment to indigenous military modernization and operational readiness enhancement. These strategic acquisitions will significantly boost the Armed Forces' capabilities across land, sea, and air domains.
The emphasis on indigenous sourcing aligns with India's self-reliance goals while strengthening national security infrastructure through advanced defence technologies and improved supply chain management systems.
