InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, has appointed Aloke Singh as Chief Strategy Officer. The airline said Singh will lead long-term strategic planning and company-wide transformation efforts as IndiGo prepares for its next phase. The appointment comes during a broader leadership transition at the carrier.

Aloke Singh to lead long-term planning at IndiGo

IndiGo said Singh will take on the new role from April 6. He will oversee the company’s long-term strategy and work on transformation initiatives across the business. According to the company, his responsibilities will include supporting growth plans, improving operational efficiency, and helping the airline respond to changes in the aviation market.

Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of IndiGo, said Singh would initially report to him. He added that the reporting structure would change after the airline appoints its next chief executive. In the company’s statement, Bhatia said, “For now, Aloke will report to me. Once the next CEO assumes office, he will transition to reporting to the new chief executive."

Appointment follows experience at Air India Express

Singh joins IndiGo after serving as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Air India Express. The company said he played a central role in operational improvement and growth during his time there. His background also includes senior leadership positions at Air India and Oman Air, with work across strategy, planning, operations, and commercial functions.

IndiGo said Singh brings more than three decades of aviation experience. The airline also noted his record in managing expansion programs and leading operational and cultural change. This experience is expected to support IndiGo as it works on cross-functional priorities tied to agility, customer experience, and shareholder returns.

Company links role to next stage of growth

Bhatia said Singh’s experience would support IndiGo as the airline moves into a new phase. In the statement, he said, “Aloke brings an exceptional blend of strategic vision and operational depth. His comprehensive understanding of the aviation ecosystem will be invaluable as we build a more agile, resilient and future-ready organization and accelerate our next phase of growth.”

Singh also commented on his appointment and linked it to the airline’s wider ambitions. He said, “I am delighted to join IndiGo at such a pivotal moment for the airline and for Indian aviation broadly.” He added that IndiGo had reshaped domestic and short-haul international travel in India and was now expanding its global goals.

The appointment follows the resignation of IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers on March 10. His departure came after major operational disruptions that led the airline to cancel nearly 5,000 domestic flights in the first week of December 2025. Singh’s arrival adds a senior executive at a time when the company is adjusting its leadership structure.

IndiGo remains the country’s largest airline by scale. As of 2025, it operated more than 400 aircraft and ran about 2,200 daily flights. During the year, the carrier served 124 million customers across a network of 95 domestic and 40 international destinations. Against that backdrop, the company is placing strategy and internal coordination at the center of its next stage.
